This is my blog and it's mostly about knitting and yarn but also about other aspects of my life - books, music, movies, football (soccer), food, travels and my work as an archivist.
I met up with my friend, and fellow archivist and a knitter, Hanna and her boyfreind Fredrik, yesterday evening for some Indian food and for some modern Swedish folk music, in the form of the band Tandooi Hill - hence in Indian food.
Tandoori Hill had release party for the debut cd - Brave Shyness at the Stallet concert hall. The band has played together for 8 years and has finally come around to make an album.
The line up in this band is: Emma Reid on Fiddle, Emma Johansson on Alto flute, Bengt Jonassson on Banjo and Petter Berndalen on Percussion.
It was a great concert with lots of joy and happiness.
The past months I have been going through my musical past. Perhaps to reflect the past 39 1/2 years of living. I have filled my MP3 player with the soundtrack of my life, songs from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s. The majority of the music was on the charts in the 80s and the 90s.
Today I found a tape from 1992, with this great song: Temple of Love with The Sisters of Mercy and with back up song by Ofra Haza. The song original release was in 1983. Enjoy!
My sweetheart and best girlfriend, ACE, turns the big 4-0 today! Happy Birthady to you! ANd happy birthday to the rest of you who celebrate your birthday in February: Katarina, Stina, Andrea, Alexandra, Jenny! Here is Cliff Richard and Congratulation from 1968!
Helgen v. 48 is a great song with a great Swedish group - bob hund. The song is from the 1998 album Jag rear ut min själ! Allt ska bort!!! And this is the weekend of week 48. Enjoy!
I have been a fan of the Dixie Chicks for a long time now. And I do love their latest album Taking the Long Way (2006) and the one before Home (2002). And my favorite songs are Not Ready To Make Nice and Travelin' Soldier.
I recently saw the documentary Shut Up & Sing . The film follows the all-woman Texas-based country music trio, the Dixie Chicks over the three years while they were under intense scrutiny, physical threats, and pressure from more conservative political elements in the United States after lead singer Natalie Maines publicly criticized President Bush - she said that the band is ashamed that the President is from Texas - in a 2003 concert in London. Swedish television broadcasted this documentary in their series about the US election early November/late October.
And I can't believe the impact of that sentence, Maines told between two songs, in London (and basically everybody in the audience agreed with her) almost ended their career. But in the long run, they won.
Not Ready To Make Nice was written by all three band members (Maines, Emily Robison and Martie Maguire) along with Dan Wilson, is a statement of how they feel over the controversy, the banning of their songs from country music radio stations, and freedom of speech ("Freedom of speech is fine as long as you don't do it in public
"And how in the world can the words that I said Send somebody so over the edge That they'd write me a letter Saying that I better shut up and sing or my life will be over?!"
