Argh, my washing machine is broken. Spare parts are on the way - from Italy.. The repair man will come earliest Monday, next week.. So what to do? Well, you use the neighbourhood washer in the public laundry room. Free for us living in the hood. Found an empty time slot this afternoon, so I could wash some clothes. I have booked another time later this week to take care of the heavier stuff.
But I sure had spent those money on something else than on a spare part. But hey, that's life, right?
So this summer I have been to a couple of concerts. Mostly free ones organized by the city of Stockholm. And I actually saw the swedish band Baskery twice. First was July 1st at the green & eco festival in Kungsträdgården. Baskery could be described as Sweden's Dixie Chicks before they went mainstream, sort of anyway.
At the same evening I saw another of my favorite rockabilly band, Fatboy.
Last week we had a Culture festival in the city. Lots of music, author seminars, shows, food & drinks. All free. One evening I stayed and listen to actor/singer Rikard Wolff perform. And on Thursday I saw Baskery again.
A great show. They are touring around the globe. Both in UK and US/Canada, so if you have the chance to see them, do. They are really a good live band.

So, my vacation knitting is finished. It was a fast project mostly because this was a travel knit. First the mariefred trip but also last weekends trip, to Närke, a 2 hour train ride - 4 hours both ways.

My 3rd pair of Jaywalker, but the first pair I keep to myself! And I like them. Perfect to wear on those chilly summer evenings on my balcony.
After our stop in Riseberga, we headed to Granhammar- a farm house selling both homemade cheese, marmalde AND yarn. What more can you ask for in a shop?
This place is also kind of famous from TV, when the home interior designer Ernst Kirchstieger, re-build an old barn, which now holds the yarn shop.
The shocker is though - I went off this place not buying a single skein. I can't believe it myself. But I bought plum marmalade and some tea. But no yarn. I could restrain myself.. :-)
We had our lunch at Tant Grön, a plant nursery and shop/café. A perfect place to buy smal gifts if you like the Shabby chic trend. I bought 2 frog figurines to my balcony.

After lunch we skipped the coutryside and drove to Örebro and the mall Marieberg and did some serious shopping. I came home with a skirt, a pink blouse and a t-shirt.
The day ended with a bbq in the garden with the whole family and we had a great evening together!
The past weekend I left the busy city life for the calm countryside, visiting friends in the providence of Närke, about 2 hours train ride west of Stockholm. I arrived on Friday and mr T met me and we had lunch and later visited the Bergööska house - A trading house from the 1880s, designed by the architect Ferdinand Boberg. Extra attraction is home floor with his "Old Norse" atmosphere and wall paintings by Adolf Bergöö son in law Carl Larsson.

On Saturday, the lady of the house and I, left the boys at home, and took the car to explore area. And the first stop was the Riseberga ruins.

Riseberga Kloster, the Cistercian convent outside Fjugesta, was founded in the 12th century. At its height, Riseberga owned 240 properties in six provinces. King Gustav Vasa put a stop to their activities in 1546 and the buildings were left to fall into decay. Today, parts of the original western church wall remain. However, the entire convent area has been renovated.
A really lovely place to visit. Not much tourist, in fact, we were alone here, until we left. Ruins are special, and I really like to visit ruins.
So, this is the second alpaca left over shawl. This one goes in blue shades. All the blues are left overs from earlier projects, the beige is not. I used about 80-90 grams of the beige alpaca. This shawl is bigger than the other one.

I wore it on the Mariefred trip and it gave me warmth during the windy parts at sea. My new favorite shawl for sure. I'll take it with me on the next trip as well.
On Tuesday there was 9 happy knitter who got onboard the M/S Mariefred, the steamship, to go to the little town of Mariefred, in the providence of Södermanland. The happy knitters: Me, Stickgalningen, Översättarlivet, Schyssta Nystan, Knit-Marie, PurlyWool, Gunilla, Görel & Anette.
The weather was absolutely fantastic. Blue sky, sunny and a warm breeze. The boat trip to Mariefred takes 3 1/2 hour, so we had plenty of time to knit, talk, eat cakes & drink coffee!
The purpuse of this trip was, besides having fun, was to visit Hamilton Design, the yarn shop own by Cornelia Tuttle Hamilton.
And did we shop?!? Hell, yes!! There where a couple of sales bins, with Malabrigo 40% off. Bought one hank of Malabrigo - but also 4 hanks of Noro Kasumi (58% Wool, 24% Silk, 12% Angora & 6% Camel).
Before the boat headed back to Stockholm, we had time for coffee at Grafikens Hus - an International center for fine art printmaking.
It was really a nice trip! And I will make it again.
So I have started my 4 weeks of vacation. Not bad at all I must say. ;-) On Monday evening I was upsetting myself on what knitting to bring on Tuesdays boat trip to Mariefred, with 8 other knitters. Finally I ended up with a skein of Opal sock yarn, 2,5 mm bamboo dpn and the Jaywalker (rav link) pattern. I have knitted this pattern before, but never kept the socks myself, so this time I plan to keep them.
This sock is finished now, but I have actually cast on for the second sock already. The trip to Mariefred will be blogged about later on. Now I off to get my monthly massage.
