Last Monday night I got on a train at Stockholm Central and 13 hours later I got off the train in Älvsbyn, in northern Sweden. At this moment the weather was colder in Stockholm than in the northern Sweden. But Älvsbyn had lots of more snow.

ACE and her hubby met me at the station and by car we took us to their house in the small village of Vistbäcken (close toVistträsk). Some of you will perhaps remember I made this trip in July as well. And in July this parts of the world has long days and shorts nights, in December it's the other way around. A couple of hours of daylight before the darkness comes. The photo below was taken January 1, at 1.40 pm and the sunset has begun

New Years Eve started off with some weather, gusty winds and snowfall. On the radio they ordered people to stay in due to the wind. Some villages around us had no power but we had power all day. Around 3 am the wind stoped and the mercury started to fall. When the new year kicked in we had around -13 C / 9 F.

Before midnight we took a stroll outside in the cold and saw the stars and the milky way. For me, living in a big city, it's rare to see so many stars in the night sky. Here it was totally dark with this amazing clear sky and all those stars. We also did some fireworks (the only in the village) before we went inside to see the traditional New Year speach on TV.
New Years Day was cold and the days after was even colder. When I left Älvsbyn, late the 2nd, the mercury had fell down to -27 C/ -17 F. And now , the 5th, the cold has really hit Stockholm as well, it was -17 C / 1 F this morning.

I'm still on holiday, I won't be back at work until Wednesday. So I have a couple of days to relax and have fun.
