Another FO. Iris Girly Argyle Slipover. I hope she will like it. Now I only need to sow in the button and after that give it to her - if I can find her. Iris is out of town- as far as I know, with the family, and at the moment I honestly don't know where the family S are.. I hope she and the rest of the family are enjoying their vacation!!

Are almost done. I will start on the toe for the 2nd sock. These are to my neighbour, Irene. And I guess Irene will have them later this week. An I'm pretty sure she will love them and cherish them. And they will sure brighten her day. She recently got the news, that she has ovarian cancer, so she has her ups and downs. But I'm confident she will get through this!
I recently saw the film Control, about the Joy Division singer Ian Curtis (1956–1980), directed by Anton Corbijn. The film is based on the book, written by Ian Curtis wife/widow, Deborah Curtis, Touching from a Distance. The film was beautiful filmed, and it was very much an Anton Corbijn film.
Shot in black/white with great scenes. The film is about Ian and Joy Division but also about his love to his wife - and to his mistress.. Needles to say, it's not a happy movie, but an amazing soundtrack, and really good performace of the actors, Sam Reilly as Ian and Samantha Morton as Debbie.
I was perhaps a bit to young when Joy Division was at their height (and I was to deep in to ABBA at the time). But as you grew older you change your music taste and I have listen to some of Joy Divison songs. As you might know, after Curtis suicide, Joy Division became New Order, and New Order was something I listen too during the mid 80s.

So, do you want some knittig? Well, I have and FO to show you. I cast off before I went on my weekend trip, blocked it when I got back and gave the shawl away this morning. The shawl was a gift to my co-worker, Inga-Britt, who is leaving us in a couple of weeks. She will be celebrating her 65th birthday in mid-september, and this was my gift to her. She has almost already left us, due to holiday, but this week she worked.
The shawl is the famous Birch shawl from Rowan mag # 34. And this shawl has become an popular shawl at my work. I made one for Synnöve when she retired, Marika has one, Eva has one (both made by me) Ylva has a couple in different colours (she made them herself) Andrea got one (made by Ylva) and I have made two for me. I also made one to Mommy Dearest, when she celebrated her 60th birthday, which was exactly 3 years today! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MA!

On Sunday we visited Storforsen. One of Europe’s largest untamed waterfalls. Storforsen –the spectacular Storforsen.With a total fall of 82 meters. For a five-kilometer stretch, the river drops 82 meters; the most powerful rapids occur on the last two kilometers, with a difference in altitude of 60 meters. On the average, 250 cubic meters of water pass the rapids every second; at midsummer, this figure rises to 870 cubic meters. The rapids at Storforsen by far the most impressive sights in the region. Storforsen is a part of the Pite river, with flowns through Älvsbyn, down to the coast. Pite river is one of the four major rivers in Norrland that have been left untouched by water power plants.
The area around Storforsen is well provided with footpaths and walkways that allow the visitors to look at the rapids safely from the edge of the river. Away from the main river it is possible to walk amongst smaller streams, natural pools and rapids.
We had our coffee break viewing over "the dead falls". A spectacular place, and the place of the former falls. During 1878-1945 they change the falls direction because they need space for log driving in the river. The log driving in Pite river continued until 1982.
Nowdays people use the cliffs, to jump in the water. I could never to that, look at the height..
So If you are in the Älsbyn area this is a must seen place.
So I'm back in the city again. It's always nice to come back home after an journey! And I need to nurse my mosqito bites.. As I said before, they like my blood...
I arrivied late at Friday night at Luleå airport and was welcomed with lots of hugs by ACE & R. When we arrived very late, close to midnight, at Vistbäcken, it was basically time to go to bed, but I had some time to checked out the house. R was bought up in this house, and he and ACE has taken over the house from his parents this summer.
On Saturday we had breakfast, jumped in to the car and drove to Piteå. ACE wanted to show me her birth town. Sadley the weather in Piteå was no good at first. The rain really poured down. But suddenly the rain stoped and the sun began to shine. It's a beautiful small town.
After Piteå, next stop was Öjebyn, the old Piteå town. The Öjebyn church (pix above) is celebrating 600 years this year. And the area around the church is really nice. A small church town. It's also a popular wedding church, and during our time here, we saw five - 5!- wedding couples, taking the official wedding photo's and couples standing in line to get married.
I had a lovely evening at the movies yesterday with a friend. We saw Mamma Mia! The Movie, the musical turned in to a movie. The film was actually really good. It was really reallly funny, sometimes a bit corny, but I love corny... Sometimes I wish life would be like a musical, start a song when you want to tell something.
And Meryl Streep was actually really a good singer and she was very funny as well. And it was nice to see an American actress look (close, anyway) like her own age. Some scene's in the movie are hilarious, like Chrsitine Baranski's take on "Does Your Mother Know?" Or when cast, in the end sings "Waterloo", in full 70s outfit. Oh. My. And Julie Waters has some really funny scene's with Stellan Skarsgård. And my personal favorite, Colin Firth, is always a joy to watch. And he sings, with Pierce Brosnan, "Our Last Summer" very good.
It's a great movie celebrating the middle age woman! And how often do we see that?
And even though I have been an ABBA fan since 1973 (Ring Ring) I hadn't seen the musical, so it was really nice to see the movie. Not a "deep" movie, just pure entertainment.
Woke up this morning believing it was Friday.. Talk about a huge disappointment when I realized it was just an ordinary Wednesday.. I'm really tired at the moment, and my holiday is a couple a weeks ahead. Most of my co-workers are enjoying their summer holiday at the moment, and I'm not jealous at all... ;-) How fun can it be?!? Really?!?
Can't wait for the weekend though. I'm leaving the hectic city life for the tranquility in the country side! The city girl will be a country girl this weekend. I'm leaving on Friday night and will be back on Tuesday morning. I'm going up north, to the beautiful Norrbotten. I will leave from Stockholm, Arlanda airport to go to Luleå, Kallax airport. The flight will take 1 hour, 20 minutes. There my lovely friends will pick me up, with the car, and we're heading west. About one hours drive west from Luleå, is the village of Älvsbyn. And there, or just outside this village, ACE and her husband has a cottage.
I'm sure it's going to be a fab weekend. There are lots of nice sights in the area to visit. I'm just hoping for a decent weather. The past days has not been very summery. I will go back by train on Monday night. The train ride will take about 12 hours, and I will be back in Stockholm 7 am, Tuesday morning.
Ok, back to the salt mines...
