reading list january

I had anotherday at home today, but I had to run some errnads downtown (so tomorrow I'm off to work for a day). I had to change some Swedish money to British, I had to buy tickets to the London transportsystem and a ticket to get from Heathrow on the Heathrow Express to Paddington. Now I'm set to go! I will meet up with Claire at Paddington. Can't wait!

The monthly reading list:

* Snabba cash by Jens Lapidus. JW is living his life in the fast lane, night life at Stureplan, with the rich and famous people, in Stockholm. The problem? He is not rich, so his making money by selling cocaine. A story set in Stockholm, but you get a glimps of the dark side of the city as well the posh side. Very entertaining.

* Kärleken till stenar - The Love of Stones by Tobias Hill. A story spanning six centuries in the tale of a long-lost jewel once owned by Elizabeth I and a woman who is looking for it. It could have been a amazing story with love, hate, betray. But it was kind of boring. Didn't like it.

* Coq Rouge, Den demokratiske terroristen, I nationens intresse, Fiendens fiende all by Jan Gulliou. Parts 1, 2, 3, 4 of 10 about Carl Hamilton, a Swedish James Bond. I can't help it - I think is very fun to read. Gulliou will not win the Nobel Prize for his writings, but he sure does how to make a story. Some of my fellow counrty men and women just loathe him, others love him.

I have been home today to nurse my cold. I'm sneezing, but I have no fever today - I had a bit of fever yesterday. If I hadn't my London trip later this week, I problebly had  gone to work today, but I want to get rid of this cold, so I can really enjoy my trip. So today I have been knitting, listen to some good music, had a dye job and starting to pack my suitcase.

My Montego Bay Scarf is almost done. I have about 85 % finished.  I really like this pink colour and I think the scarf will perk up my mostly black wardrobe. And the scarf is perfect for spring/autumn. I will use up all of my 250 grams of Fleece Artists. So it's going to be a very long scarf.

I have started to packing my suitcase for my trip. And when I was looking for my British electric adapter, I found some old (local) newspapers/magazine from the 1990s, with interviews with me.. The oldest was from 1990, an interview from the local newspaper in Umeå, Västerbottens kuriren, about how it was to be an student on Umeå university and with pretty pictures of yours truly, as a 21 year old student. Those where the days...

I also found work related interview's regarding my work with the old photo collection and making it digital and an online database. These interview's where from 1997/1998, and the work  still going on to make our photo collection online for you to search in.

(cough, cough)

I am sitting in my sofa, trying to nurse my cold. I'm sporting running nose and a cough. Since I'm off to London later this week, I want to get rid of this as soon as possible. I have take all sorts of medicin, and I'm off to bed early tonight. I hoping for the best!!

I started to get the sign's of a cold yesterday evening, when I had a night out with the girls. We took off from work early and and an after work evening. We had a blast, with tons of laughter. And  I have no more a sore throat - and I thank Auchentoshan for that. ;-)

Today I got a hair cut, and I had a hair dresser that didn't go completly gaga over my curly hair for once. I liked that! She understood my feelings and didn't blow my hair into an afro do! Bless her! I will go back to her!! She cut about 10 centimeters of my hair - that's about 4 inches. And my plan tomorrow, is to dye the hair in my usual brownish/goldish/red colour.

Now I'm off to bed!

In my work as an archivist I handle photo's everyday. I'm photo archivist. My main work is to make our big photo collection avalible on the internet, in a big database for you to browse.

It makes me happy, when I by chance, on Saturday evening saw the beginning of a fantastic BBC-series, about the french banker Albert Kahn and his amazing photo archive. The Wonderful World Of Albert Kahn. I was stunned to see these amazing photographs taken between 1908-1930, with scenes from over 50 countries, in colour! For those of you interested in photo's and can see Swedish televion and has the Kunskapskanalen, you can see the first episode again Friday 25, at 7 pm and the second episode at Saturday 26, at 10 pm (really bad hours both days, but you can always record it and see it later).

And have you Americans (and the rest of you) notice, that you can see The Library Of Congress photo's on Flickr? Over 3.000 photo's both in colour and black/white! So fun to look at!

tired

The past night I have been sleeing very poorly, last night I had about 3 hours of sleep. It has been hours of toss and turn in the bed, it's hot/cold, my legs  where itchy. And top of it, PMS.  So you can imagine the ray of sunshine I am at the moment.

While I waited for the pasta to get boiled I relaxed for 10 minutes - I had the egg timer with me. 

My biggest wish at the moment is to be able to sleep tonight. I have changed the bed linen with new clean bed linen, the window is open to get the bed cold (I love to get to bed in a bit cold bed). So hopefully I will sleep tonight.

another sunny sunday

We had another sunny sunday hear! We had a sunny sunday last week too - and the rest of the week, totally boring and grey with lots and lots of rain.

I have been out walking in the sun, but I have also used my indoor bike for some spinning. And it felt good, and while spinning I watched some alpine skiing on TV.

I have just enjoyd my dinner, a hot chilli with rice and a green salad on the side. Rest of the evening I will enjoy with some knitting, a cup of tea and some nice music. No more TV today - there is nothing I want to watch tonight, so why bother to look on something I really don't want to watch. It's really nice to skip the telly, at least one evening a week.

There are knitting going on here, I have just not have the time to photo of the pink bundle. But here you have a photo, a fresh one from tonight.

Montego Bay Scarf, is a simple knit, exellent while watching tv or chatting with your co-workers on the coffee break. You can find the pattern in Interweave Knit, summer 2007 edition.

Other wise, there is not much going on here. I have been working my hours and gone home after work. I have been a bit down this week - with no reason at all, just feeling a bit blue. There are so much meetings at work at the moment so I am quite contend to spend time on my own on my free time.

The weather doesn't me happier either - it's so boring with all the rain. And now we can add the wind to the rain. Some parts of the country has been told to stay in, due to the hefty wind. It will reach Stockholm midday tomorrow.

I have been swaping yarn with a lady in Maryland. She was one skein short of Rowan Cork, in grey - and I had one skein, so I sent her my grey cork and she sent some Lorna Laces to me. A great deal! It will be perfect for a pair of socks to me! A lovely blue colour!

singing in the rain?

Well, not really. The weather has been really awfull today - rain, rain and rain.. Not the winter weather I'm longing for.

To get happy you have to see bright colours in your (yellow) vase at work and fill it with tulips. It makes me happy!

This is the first bouqet of tulips this season! Red and yellow. An eye catcher in my window at work! I love them!

I took a detour to work this morning. Some of my colleauges and I visited the archive at Stockholm City museum this morning. It's interesting to know what other archives has to offer. It was really interesting, sadly they have not much online for you to browse, execpt Stockholmskällan. Stockholmskällan is a website where one can access historical and current factual sources that provide information about Stockholm and its populace over the years. On the website you will find photographs, architectural plans and drawings, films and original documents. But if you visit the museum you and look in a bigger database with more of photo's from Stockholm.
