Sticka mera is a site for knitter's, with a lot of links to Swedish and English knit blogs, yarn stores, pattern. Sticka mera organize swaps, contests and every month there is a small interview with a happy knitter. And for September, the happy knitter is yours truely. Yay! You can read the interview here. Only in Swedish. I will translate it later!

The mastermind behind this site, is Ulrika. And she is actually a former school mate of mine. I had read her blog for a while and discovered she published photo's from the small town we attend junior high together. So I had to ask her who she was, and we realize we knew of each other 25 years ago - I had her father as a math teacher, and Ulrika was in the same year as my younger sister. It's a small world out there!

I had promised to tell you about Visby yesterday. But I was to tired yesterday evening to blog. I was back at work yesterday after 4 week. The first day back is always hard. But it was kind of a slow day, I had no meetings and I sat at my desk downloading photo's in our big database and listening on radio and last.fm.

Visby is a small town, but a lovely small town. Visby is the largest town on the island of Gotland; it is arguably the best-preserved medieval town in Scandinavia and has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Among the most notable historical remains are the 3.4-km long stone wall called "Ringmuren" that encircles the city and the old church ruins.

I love just to walk around this town and snap pictures on the streets and the houses. The architecture is quit diffrent than what we have in Stockholm. I have made a mosaic of some of my Visby shots. As usual you can find more on my Flickr account.

the cottage

We left the port of Nynäshamn on Saturday, with the ferry. And 3 hours later we reached Visby. On board we met Marika's niece, Emma and her husband, so they drove us to our rented cottage. We stayed in the small village of Brissund, just 10 km outside of Visby (the biggest town on Gotland). We rented the cottage from Marika's sister for a small fee. We stayed in the big house and during the first weekend, Marika's sister, Annelie and her partner stayed in the guest house. They flew back to Stockholm on Sunday, so the rest of the week we were on our own.

And we had a great week. The sun was shining and it was really hot the first couple of days. We had most breakfast's and dinner's outside and looking at the amazing view - the sea. I'm a city girl, but once in a while I appreciate the country side. Long walks, good food, lovely company - Marika and her son Hampus, 9 months. Early mornings - Hampus usually wakes up 5 am... and early nights, we were really tired at 9 pm.. The fresh country air makes you sleepy (and the early mornings!).

Gotland is a beautiful island, in the middle of the Baltic sea, with a diffrent nature and architecture than the Swedish mainland. The Danes was the rulers of the island for many years before Sweden won it back 1646.

i'm back

Just a short note tonight. I'm back from my week long vacation trip to Gotland and Visby. We had an amazing week and I have lots of photo's to show you from the island in the Baltic sea. The one above is taken the first evening in Brissund, on the beach. It's showing the stairs down to the beach.

I have been home for about 3 hours, and the journey over the Baltic sea was not a funny trip today. It was really windy and I get seasick very easy, so for 3 1/2 hour I was not feeling very well so I tried to sleep most of time. I was very happy get off the ferry!

I will tell you more about our trip tomorrow.

My suitcase is packed, and I'm ready for my vaction trip! Yay! I hope for a sunny and warm week with good food and drinks. My travel buddies are my friend Marika and her 9 month son Hampus.

Lolly is back from her trip to Peru, go over to her place and read about her experience of the Peruvian earthquake the other day.

Hello, there! The past week I have just enjoyed my vacation, taking care of me, just relaxing in my neighbourhood, enoying the summer. Reading, knitting, listen to good music (the past days a lot of The Smiths), re-organize the walk-in wardrobe and meeting friends over a latte or lunch. And getting ready for my trip. Basically, having a very good life.

This morning I got up early and took the train down to Gnesta to meet up with Jen and her two small boys, Albin 3 1/2 and his baby brother Axel, just 6 weeks old. We had a lovely day, stolling around Gnesta, having lunch at home and then lots of playtime for me and Albin, while Jen was nursing and changing the little one. A great day!!

My plan for tomorrow is doing the laundry and to pack my suitcase! I have started to writing a list what to bring. I will take my Madder Ribbed Sock with me, I have plenty of time to knit on the ferry.

Now I will go to bed and listen to the end of the Dan Brown book.

a madder ribbed sock

Sock no 1 is done. I have been sitting in my sofa, knitting and listen to Dan Brown's book Deception Point this morning. You can say a lot of Dan Brown, but he knows how to entertain. I am about half way through the book and it's so entertaining with power strungle in Washington DC and science on the Arctic ices and it's a great book to listen to while knitting. I have started on the second sock, but I had to take a break to make some lunch, take some photo's on the sock and blog about it.

The sun is not shining here today, but it has been hot here. The past week has been very hot and very, very sticky. During the nights the temp has been over +20 C / 68 F. It's a bit cooler today, and it's a lot easier to breathe outside today - when it's hot and damp weather I have some problems with my asthma, but nothing my medicine can handle. But I love the clear air today!

I will now go backto my knitting!

moderna museet

Spent the day in the company of my lovely and dear friend ACE, who was in town for a day. We took the opitunity to visit the Moderna Museet - Museum Of Modern Art. We watched the art exhibitions and had great lunch.

The exhibition 10 stories tells the story of some of the Swedish artists who went abroard to explore the formal idiom of abstract art. The featured artists include Ivan Aguéli, Nils von Dardel, Siri Derkert, Sven X-et Erixon, Sigrid Hjertén.

Outside the museum, you can watch the sculpures of Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely. I love these scuptures. They are so colourful and they makes me happy.

After our museum visit we strolled through the city and had a great time just talking to each other. It was a lovely day!
