This post actually contains knitting! YES! And a photo on my WIP.Nancy Bush's Bed socks from Knitting Vintage socks. I turned the heel on the second sock tonight during my visit to Sthlm knitters knitting café at Ginos. And we were a big group of knitters tonight. I haven't been to a meeting for a month or so, so it was, as usual, very nice to meet the girls and chat and knit for a while.

I meet another fellow blogger and archivist today. Fun. We both attend a users meeting for a digital archive system. There are a lot of archivists (and librarians) in the knitting community!

A year ago I was in Dublin and had lots of fun. I will go back, but not this year. And next time I will see a bit more of Ireland.

lazy afternoon

Summer is here! We have an amazing summers day here today, +22 C/71 F. So I decided just to have a lazy day! I had my breakfast outdoor on my balcony. And I skipped my house works just to sit on my balcony. Sitting on the balcony (covered in sun block) knitting on my bed socks, reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, drinking coffee and eating a warm Rhubarb crumle pie with vanilla ice cream.

I'm re-reading the Harry Potter books so I have everything fresh when the final book is out, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows- I have already pre-order it. But before that, the 5th film is out.. A great Harry Potter summer! And I have bought Charmed Knits by Alison Hansel. And there are some items I gladly would knit to me or someone else.

at the movies

I spent the afternoon at the local cinema with a friend watching the french film La Môme - La Vie En Rose. The movie about Edith Piaf, directed by Olivier Dahan and with the fantastic Marion Cotillard as Edith. She was awesome.

I liked the film very much, and I need to buy a CD with Edith Piaf songs. "Non, je ne regrette rien" "Milord" "Padam Padam" "La vie en rose" "Sous le ciel de Paris".

We were the youngest persons in the audience and the rest was ladies in their 70s..

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Georg. 1 year old today! I can't believe this year went so fast. He is walking and talking, sort of anyway...

friday fika

Every Friday, at work, we at Heritage Information Services Department at the National Heritage Board have a joint coffee break -fika, in swedish, at 2.30 pm in the kitchen. Today it was the achivists who prepared the "fika". And today we served strawberries and pineapples dipped in chocolate. And it was an instant success! They (we) cleaned the plates pretty fast.. Our Friday "fika" is a nice way to end the week together. Do you do anything special at work on Fridays?

The department consists of archive, library and photographic divisions as well as those divisions concerned with specific information systems, such as building registers and heritage data.)

I live just outside of Stockholm, in a suburb called Sundbyberg. I have lived here since 1993 and I have no plans to leave. The photo is showing the old water tower, situated on a hill, and it's famous landmark in Sundbyberg.

Sundbyberg, colloquial Sumpan, is a municipality in Stockholm County, in east central Sweden. A population of 34 000 people in an area of nine square kilometres makes Sundbyberg the most densely populated municipality, next to Stockholm.The town is a part of the Stockholm urban area. The western parts border to Stockholm City and the eastern to Solna.

Sundbyberg is the smallest municipality in Sweden by size and yet, it is nearby to green areas, lakes, parks and enchanting cafés. Modern office buildings with their fibre-optic networks, share the same area as restaurants and wooden manors from the previous century.

People have lived and worked in this area for over 2,000 years, but the present city of Sundbyberg was founded 1888.

  Five underground subway stations, long distance trains, a commuter train, buses, and a well-built roadway system makes it easy to get to and from Sundbyberg. In about 10 to 20 minutes you can get to Stockholm city, which has the country´s largest concentration of workplaces and services.

On the small streets of central Sundbyberg, there are boutiques, restaurants, a post office, banks and other important services. Central Sundbyberg is approachable by all means of transport and is the natural hub of business activity in the municipality. Cozy and gracious architecture, many outdoor meeting points, and a short walk to almost everything, gives Sundbyberg an atmosphere and charm of a modern small town.

rhubarbs

I don't have a garden and I don't I have a country house. But others have. And they have rhubarb growing in their garden and like Mrs B, who has lot of rhubarb, pick them and give them away. So I got me som rhubarb today. And I love rhubarb. When I grew up, rhubarb was a big part of my childhood summers. Rhubarb compote/soup or cream are a perfect snack. And rhubarb pie is so delicious. Yesterday evening I made rhubarb compote and the rest will be a pie later this week. And I know I will get some more rhubarb next week!

Today we are celebrating Marika, who turns 40! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SWEETHEART! Hoppas att du gillar presenten!

Now it's time to eat breakfast!

busy days

It has been crazy days at work this week. One of the junior lawyers wanted to have two contracts for an electronic records system from the years of 1994, 1997 and 2002. Usual we don't have any problems to find this type of things, but this was a tough case. We have been working our butts off to find these important documents.

We knew we had lend one of the documents, the one from 2002, to the registrar's office but they claimed they never got it... So for two days, Stina and I have been looking through the years of 1994, 1997 and 2002 find it. The contracts from 1994 and1997 was no problem but the one from 2002 was still missing.. Finally we were almost desperate.. We couldn't find it. Late this afternoon, there where 5 archivist looking for this document. So finally, the archivist-on-call called the junior lawyer and told him we wasn't able to find it. His answer? "Well, he said, my boss (the head lawyer) just told me, the 2002 contract is on his desk.. He picked it up over a week ago..." He had snatched it from the registrators office, without telling someone... To put it mildly, we were NOT happy about this...

During the archiv seach yesterday I actually found something else, my first contract of employment at the archive. From 1994. At the bottom of the contract you can see what I earned, not much but I managed. The great paycheck way back in 1994 was 12.000 SEK/month ( € 1 283,42/month, £ 872,35/month or $ 1 722,41/month). I can never claim I do this for the money! (I earn a bit more these days. =))

random facts

It's really windy outside today. A pot of flowers (showing above) actually moved a bit this morning but I saved it before it hit the ground. I bought some balcony decoration yesterday, a blue butterfly.

Laura tagged me for the 7 random things about me meme. So here ya go!

1. When I was a kid I wanted to be a midwife or an actress or an reporter or a teacher or a librarian or working in a bookstore. I never wanted to be an archivists. But here I am, I have work at "my" archive since 1994.

2. I'm suffer from dyslexia. Mildly anyway, I have problems with p and b, d and t and top of it I'm a bad speller both in Swedish and English. I am relying on my English/Swedish/English dictionary. I have (problebly) edit this text a couple of times. And I bet there are some wrong spellings in this text.

3. I love to send and receive postcards. When I travel I send out a lot of postcards to my friends and families. I have recently been swaping postcards with Jamie (Thank you!) And I would love to get one from your part of the world!

4. I wear a skirt most of the days - at work, at home, at parties, at dinners. My skirt wardrobe is packed with skirts for diffrent occations and seasons. I love to wear a skirt or a a dress. When I get dressed in the mornings my first consern is that I will feel confortable and I do that in a skirt or dress. I feel free and pretty.

5. I recently got my new drivers licence. I had my licence when I was 18, but I have actually not drove a car for about 10 years. I live in a city with a public transport system and I use it every day. I actually don't need a car.

6. Weekend breakfasts are my favorite time of the week, Sunday's are always egg, bacon, fresh orange and grape juice and Saturday's are diffrent every week. Today I had yoghurt with fresh strawberries and a Crisp bread - Knäckebröd - with smoked turkey on. And with lots of tea to go. And my weekend breakfasts takes place in the living room, curled up in the sofa, watching a dvd movie. Today I saw Ned Kelly with Heath Ledger and Orlando Bloom.

7. In my teens and early 20s I was obsessed with the italian and the american mafia culture and anything related to it (the Kennedy's, Jimmy Hoffa, Marilyn Monroe, Lucky Luciano, Bugsy Siegel, Cosa Nostra, the history of Sicily). I read a lot about it and I saw a lot of movies and TV-series about it. One of my favorite movies are (still) The Godfather, part 2. And Sopranos is a favorite of mine.
