book report, may

* Aristocrats: Caroline, Emily, Louisa and Sarah Lennox, 1740-1832 by Stella Tillyard. It's a biography, based on the letters, written by the Lennox sisters-Caroline, Emily, Louisa, and Sarah. Author Stella Tillyard gives a second life to these 18th-century aristocrats, whose extended family included some of the most significant and colorful British political figures of the era. She mixes impeccable research, a sharp eye for detail, and a writing style that's both precise and lively to produce a biography of a clan that doubles as a panoramic history of the aristocracy in the 1700s. It's a joy to read and it's a piece of British history.

* Fallen - The Falls by Joyce Carol Oates. I usually love Oates books, but I didn't like this one at all. It tells the story of Ariah, a woman whose husband threw himself over Niagara Falls. The rest of the book is the story of her life and family, and how she finds love, then loses it again.

* Sista andetaget - The Last Breath by Denise Mina. This is the third book about the Glasgow journalist Patricia "Paddy" Meehan. Mina is one of my favorite crime authors, but this one was not as good at the two first in the series.

* Vänaste land by Åke Edwardson. The 8th book in the series about Inspector Winter. Not the best in the series, perhaps the weaksest so far.. But an intersting story.

blue sky

Finally... The summer is back! With blue skies and warmth! Lovely! Just one problem, I'm still at work. My vacation kicks off in 3 1/2 weeks.. But I'm enjoying the sun as much as I can. I eat my lunch outside and  have my coffee outside the office building. And at home, have my dinner on the balcony! Heaven!

er, the tv series, 1994-2009

Er1 So this evening it all ends. After 331 episodes and 16 years it's time to say goodbye! The final ep is here. This TV-series had been my favorite, from episode 1. And I'm gonna miss it! The show survived when Clooney left, when Anthony Edwards left, when Noah Wylie left. And continued with new doctors and nurses. I loved Dr Ross, Nurse Hathaway, Dr Greene, Dr Carter, Dr Kovas, Dr Lockhart, Dr Rasgotra, Dr Barnett and Dr Gates. I learned to love Dr Pratt, Dr Weaver, Dr Romano, Dr Morris and Dr Brenner. I cried a lot when Dr Greene died and when Dr Pratt died. And the sudden death of Lucy Knight was a shocker. Erorgseason1 There as been love, break ups, heart breaks, deaths, births - life of the nurses, doctors and desk clerks at the County General in Chicago.

And all the great guest stars: Sally Field, Forrest Whittaker, Alan Alda, Red Buttons, Ray Liotta, Ewan McGregor, William H Macy, Don Cheadle, James Cromwell and Stanley Tucci.

Well, it's time to say goodbye and start collect the series on DVD!

I will miss you all!

mariefred

It's still very rainy here, but you can't sit and mope about it, so yesterday I took a train out of the city to visit the town of Mariefred in Södermanland. Mariefred is a small town with a gigantic tourist spot - the castle of Gripsholm. I met up with my pal Jen at the train station and our first stop was the yarn store Hamiltion design, owned by Cornelia Tuttle Hamilton. And mrs Hamilton was in the store yesterday and as soon she saw me she gave 2 thumbs up for my green Birch shawl! Yay!

malabrigo paris night &  black

I bought 2 lovely hanks of Malabrigo, worsted, in two darker colours blue and black! I need these two colours as a base when knitting more hats!

After the yarn shopping we had lunch and a lot of catching up to do. It's always nice to meet Jen, but it's been awhile since our last meeting. We had a great afternoon walking around Mariefred and the castle, looking in shops, had coffee and talking.

When it started to rain - again - we made our way home to Jen in Gnesta, driving through the lovely country side, with small curches, farm houses with cows, horses, sheeps. At Jen's home I played with the boys (2 and 5 years old) while Jen and her hubby made dinner (bbq).  It was a great day and the clock was almost 11 pm before I got home.

nhl premiere - stockholm, oct 2

Nhlprem The hockey season is over, at least here in Europe. As you might know it's  still on in North America. The NHL finals are playing at the moment, between Detroit Red Wings vs Pittsburgh Penguins. We have 2-1 in matches to the Red Wings for now (best of 7).

Anyway, today I bought tickets to the next NHL premiere. In the recent years the NHL premiere has been played around Europe, and last year Stockholm hosted 2 games between Penguins and Ottawa Senators. And this year Stockholm  and the Globe Arena (or the official new name: The Ericsson Globe Arena) will be host to 2 games between Detroit and St Louis Blues. And I will be there, the first  game, October 2nd! I'm Happy!!

acupuncture

Akupunktur I had my first acupuncture - ever, today. For about 10 years - on and off -I have problems -read pain-  with my left shoulder and arm. I usually go to my doctor and get some meds and after a couple week, everything is fine again. But after living with this for 10 years I thought it was time to deal with it and take another approach.

I did go to the doc and I got my usual meds, but I also called a physio therapy centre, close to my apartment, to get some exercise advice and to try acupuncture. So today I got my first 4 needles - 3 in my shoulder and one on my upper hand, between the thumb and my index finger.

I have no fear of needles, (hey, I have a tattoo on my hip) so I had no problem with the procedure, it stings a bit when they rotate the needles, other wise it feels nothing (in my opinion). My next appointment will be on Friday! And I really hope this will work out. I have a work, which occasionally means heavy lifts (did you know that paper could be heavy?) and I need my strenght (and my health) both for work and my private life. And the pain affects my knitting too... So we really want is to turn out well!

tea, knitting and a book - my morning at the balcony

I have the day off! And I have spent my morning on the balcony in the sun with my breakfast, my current knitting project and a good book! And life feels great! This is how it should be, everyday. No hurry, no rush - just time to relax.. My only appointment is my physio theraphy in and hour...

S**t, it's time to get ready... Have a great day! I know I will!!

puck this!

It's in the middle of the night here in Stockholm. But I'm up, trying to stay awake while watching NHL play offs. It's time to play about that hideous silver cup - Detroit Red Wings vs Pittsburgh Penguins. Remember last September when I saw Sidney Crosby walking around the streets in Stockholm? The season was just about to start.

Puckthis Ravelry is a great knitting community! I have joined a hockey group called Puck This! And it's bout hockey and knitting. And the last days I have been active on the Puck This forum. (For you who doesn't care about hockey, you can stop reading, this post will be just about hockey.)

Detroit is the NHL team with 8 Swedish players: Tomas Holmström, Henrik Zetterberg, Niklas Kronwall, Nicklas Lidström, Mikael Samuelsson, Jonathan Ericsson, Johan Franzén and Andreas Lilja. Since I don't have a favorite team in NHL, I basically follows the Swedish players regardless which team they play for. At the moment we have 1-1 between Red Wings and Pens!

henrik zetterberg after the win over chicago blackhawkes, 4-1 in matches

The up coming season 09/10 is also an Olympic season. And Sweden is the current Olympic Champion! And all the above is candidates for the Swedish team.. Can't wait!
